From the south, we took a night bus to La Paz the capital of the country and the highest one on Earth. Arriving there was quite strange as it was 5 am in the morning and extremely quiet around the town. During the day, we could finally better understand what it means to be in a town with almost 2 million people, especially after climbing the local summit, from which we could see the northern and southern zones. The architecture of the buildings is very unique as almost 90% of the houses in the city are made out of bricks. For us, the whole landscape looked like a bigger version of Favelas we saw in Rio. The city center is located in a valley and is surrounded by hills, therefore to facilitate traveling, the city is equipped with gondolas. A very efficient and convenient way to get from one hill to another as well as to enjoy the city skyline from a completely different perspective. During the first day, we visited the governmental square and walked through The Witches' Market. On the next day we went to the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) that was about 30 minutes from the center. We did a tour through the entire valley and got impressed by the amount of massive rocks that characterized the whole area. The vallley is a landscape of eroded rock and clay and its name is after jagged hills that look like they come from another planet. As La Paz offers a lot of hikes with mesmerizing views, we decided to go to the Valle de las Ánimas (Valley of the Souls) the next day. The name is because the rocks look like spirits wailing in the wind. The place was incredibly peaceful and almost uncivilized. The view from above once again caught the eye for an album. On the way down, we made an interesting observation as we noticed a family washing their clothes in the fresh water that was flowing down from the top of the hills. It is once a week process according to the family‘s statement. Very inspiring and important to see that there are other ways of achieving the same goals. We ended our last day with a well-deserved dinner in an elegant restaurant with a view of the city.
